If you are an unfortunate victim of anxiety attacks, you will know that dealing with it is no child’s play. But how does one come to terms with this mental disorder and where lies its origin?

Anxiety attack is not a condition which affects only a select few. It can happen to anyone anytime. A strained relationship in marriage or friendship, a trauma in the family, soured relationship with some one close, unhappy job scene, tyrant boss or superior or uncongenial work environment can throw any other wise healthy person in an anxiety attack situation. Some people even get into an anxiety situation worrying about money or health. Irrespective of its origin, it is common knowledge that anxiety is a difficult situation to cope with.

The outcome of an anxiety attack: The first symptom of an anxiety attack is breathlessness. An overall numbness overwhelms you and you may start to feel terrorized both mentally and physically. Your heart starts pounding and you have difficulty in breathing. To counter these types of onslaught, deep breathing often is of great help. Practicing breath control or taking medications are considered to be good ways to prevent the severity of an anxiety attack. There are some other steps also, which you could have a look, which will help you cope with anxiety better.

How to keep anxiety attacks under control?: There are several things which you could do to keep the anxiety attacks under check. For instance, if the situation is overwhelming to the extent that it is disrupting your normal existence, you could take some specific medications which teat anxiety disorders. These medicines are prescribed by qualified mental doctors or your family doctor, who is completely aware of your specific situation and your health conditions. Valium, Xanax, and Ativan are some of the commonly-used medications prescribed to control anxiety disorders.

One of the most important aspects to remember about these medications is that the type and the dosage must be monitored by a certified and qualified health professional. This is because the rate of addiction to these drugs is very high and may cause serious adverse effects if taken randomly and regularly. Your doctor is the best person to judge which medicine is the right one for you and at what frequency you should have them.

Yet another help that is readily available to control anxiety or panic attacks is to have a frank and open communication with a family member or a good friend. Remember sharing your problem is actually halving your problem. You will feel much better if you find an empathetic listener who understands you and your issues. Even if you can not locate one such person, being with a fun-loving group of friends who are fond of laughing, joking or simply enjoying themselves, can do you tons of good for your mental state. Feeling lonely is common – but we as responsible adults must know how to befriend ourselves and calm our minds. If we feel helpless, let us reach out and touch other people. Surely a helping hand is not that difficult to find if you try hard enough.

Physical exercise is another readily-available help to improve your mental health. It not only makes you look good with feel good also. This is due to the fact that exercise increases the levels of serotonin in your brain, which is responsible for monitoring your mood. An increased level of serotonin can make you feel good about yourself and the world. This feeling is important if you wish to counter any anxiety attack in future. Pick up an exercise schedule and stick to it – you can feel the improvement yourself.

Before we end, remember, life is truly like a box of chocolates, we never know what lies therein. But to improve the way we look at life, ourselves and people, we can take help from the tips give above. After all, you do want to remain happy, don’t you?
